We are parents, grandparents, alumni and community members who love our island and believe that its children can succeed in anything they try – if we all help. Together we can make our school better and build a brighter future for Lānai’s students.

Our goal is to increase parental and community involvement to make our school one of the best in Hawaii.  In our view, there is no reason why we can’t be the number one school in the state. To doubt this is to doubt our children and we refuse to do that.

Research tells us that the most accurate predictor of a student’s achievement in school is not how much money the family makes or whether or not they went to college—or speak English as their native language.

Here’s what leads to success:

  • A home environment that encourages learning;
  • Communicating high, yet reasonable, expectations for children’s achievement and future careers;
  • Becoming involved at school

The important thing to remember is that parents, other family members and loving adults are the most important teachers in their child’s life.

Schools that work well with families where adults are involved:

  • Outperform identical programs without parent and family involvement on every objective measure.  Students do better in school and in life.
  • Have improved teacher morale and higher ratings of teachers by parents; and
  • Schools get better
  • Communities grow stronger

We have many ideas for getting us more involved, but want to hear from you, too.  If you really care about our children, our island and our future, we ask you to raise your hand.

Raise your hand if you believe in our kids and want them to become successful, caring adults.
